Evangelical Christians Have an Approach to the Border and Immigration that Candidates Should Consider - At the recent annual meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention, thousands of representatives of the nation’s largest evangelical denomination voted nearly unanimously in favor of a resolution on immigration. The Southern Baptist resolution “on wisely engaging immigration” affirms the biblically mandated role of the church to compassionately care for and share the gospel with immigrants. It also affirms the government’s God-ordained role to maintain order, “including strong borders and clear immigration policies as well as care for migrants—not sacrificing one for the other.” The Dignity act is largely consistent with the Southern Baptist Convention’s resolution. The Dignity Act is bipartisan, meaning it could conceivably pass through both the Democratic-controlled U.S. Senate (where legalization for Dreamers and other unauthorized immigrants are the priority) and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives (where border security is the top immigration concern). Eighty-three percent of Texan evangelical Christians support both these policy goals.
Rep. Chip Roy Statement on Anniversary of the Fall of Kabul - President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan left more than 1,000 American citizens behind enemy lines, billions in U.S. military equipment in the hands of the Taliban, and 13 service members dead. This administration still owes the American people answers and this House Republican majority owes them accountability through all necessary means at its disposal. But Biden does not bear solitary blame for the Afghanistan disaster. He shares that culpability with the swamp politicians who, for almost two decades, provided no clear mission or strategic objectives for victory. Today, we continue to have decades-old, outdated Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) on the books that provide no strategic clarity for the threats we face. We will be a better, stronger nation if we pass S. 316 – which repeals the decades-old 1991 & 2002 AUMFs – and then work to give our men and women a clear mission under an updated AUMF.
Exceptional Drought and Heat in Texas - It’s been a dry year even though there was rainfall early on in 2023 including the ice storm. Some areas of Central Texas are in Exceptional Drought conditions. Excessive heat warnings have been issued for several counties. The trees are taking a beating in the Texas Hill Country and so is the wildlife as they struggle to find water to drink. The Guadalupe River is dry from Rebecca Creek Bridge to 281N. Pray for rain! Sonja Harris reports on current droughts in Texas.
Pfluger Legislation Allows Ranchers to Protect their Livestock from Caracara Bird of Prey - In the past two decades, destructive caracara birds of prey have taken up residence throughout Texas and into Louisiana. Lamb producers in Texas have seen a significant increase in the number of lambs killed by caracaras in recent years. Since these predators are protected, it is currently illegal for producers to kill one without prior authorization from the Department of Interior. We should not be protecting tropical birds of prey that are attacking American livestock. Pfluger's legislation restores the ability of livestock producers to protect their herds from caracaras.
