Dear John,
Our hearts are broken. They break for the communities of El Paso and Dayton. They break for the hundreds of cities and towns that have been affected by gun violence in this country. They break for the nearly 100 people killed daily by gun violence -- for the individuals and families affected by firearm suicide, domestic violence, and community violence every single day.
In the wake of these horrific acts, we often find ourselves asking "Why?". Today at the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV), we're asking "Why?" to our legislators. WHY have you not done something to stop this epidemic? WHY have you not embraced common sense gun reform policies that would protect American lives? There is no time to wait on this. The time for action is NOW.
We need a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines. We need to pass extreme risk laws ([link removed]) across the country. We need funding for community violence intervention programs. And we need the Senate to step up and act on bills that the House has already passed: universal background checks, addressing the Charleston loophole, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and funding gun violence research at the CDC and NIH.
In support of these initiatives, our Board of Directors has created a matching fund. For all donations made within the next 72 hours to either CSGV or our sister organization, the Educational Fund to Stop Gun Violence (Ed Fund: [link removed]), our board members will match the donations -- up to $30,000.
We need your help.

At CSGV, we are working tirelessly to develop and advocate for evidence-based solutions that will reduce gun injury and death in all its forms. Gun violence is a public health crisis.
