John,
I have spent my career fighting for housing as a human right. It is an issue I championed in the state legislature and one I'm proud to be fighting for in Congress. That's why I was honored to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the future site of a 100% affordable housing development. I am so proud of local leaders and organizations for their hard work.
Only two blocks away from my house, at the intersection of Logan Square, Hermosa, and Humboldt Park, this multi-family development will provide eighty-nine units of quality, affordable housing.

This development is great news for the community, but it has a personal meaning to me as well, John. Growing up, my dad did janitorial work in exchange for cheaper rent on the apartment above our church in Humboldt Park.
Besides janitorial work, my family would often volunteer at our church's homeless shelter. At only about seven years old, I was asking men old enough to be my grandfather for their stories and how they ended up at the shelter.
And that sparked in me a passion for public service. As a teenager, I was working to help people suffering from homelessness secure life-saving benefits. As an adult, that passion didn't go away – I organized in my community and eventually had the honor of representing them in the Illinois House.
Now, as the first Latina from the Midwest to be elected to Congress, as someone who has built a reputation as a champion for affordable housing, I am so proud of the steps we've taken as a community to make housing more affordable and available for all.
John, I'd like to continue being a champion for issues like this, but the extremists and moderates have made it clear that they're looking for my replacement in 2024. With our next campaign kicking off soon, I'd love to have your early support. Will you pitch in any amount today? [[link removed]]
