John,
“Being one of 14 children during back to school season was very difficult for my immigrant parents. We would definitely use our backpacks for multiple years and share clothes, but there was always a need for new supplies like folders, paper, and notebooks, that helped us start the school year successfully. I still remember, as the eldest, asking my parents for the calculator I needed for algebra and geometry. They couldn't afford one so I borrowed one from a classmate until a teacher got me one.
It is so important that we come together as a loving community to help families who may be struggling to ensure their child has everything they need this school year. Please check out how you can help below.”

What can you do to help families in our community?
It can cost up to $1,000 per household for school supplies. With most families living paycheck to paycheck, those expenses are out of reach.
We are raising funds to support the many local school-supply drives.
Michigan schools start on August 28th, and different organizations are collecting various school supplies and essential items like food for families in need. We are continuing to receive requests for support, and we have just a few weeks to get students prepared and ready to thrive.
Can you donate to our school supplies fund today to support families in need? (All donations to this fund will go to school-supply drives for students in Michigan’s 12th congressional district.)
We’re supporting backpack giveaways like we do every year. We are donating your contributions to various organizations helping purchase school supplies.
Please chip in today to our school supplies fund to support families in need in Michigan’s 12th district.
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your secure donation will go through immediately:
Thank you for helping to build communities and a society where everyone can thrive.
In solidarity,
Team Rashida
