Dear John
Donations can support people in poverty to speak out for themselves, in powerful and creative ways. For example, Church Action on Poverty was recently able to support the UK’s first ‘food bank choir’ to give a moving performance at a national End Hunger UK campaign event. Click below to watch them sing their own version of a famous Beatles song:
Choir leader Yo Tozer-Loft said:
"People were really motivated by the chance to lobby their MPs about food poverty. Even people who didn’t think they were singers said, 'I want to raise my voice somehow'."
Over the next three years, our ‘Speaking Truth to Power’ programme will respond to the urgent challenges we face, enabling more people and partner organisations to loosen the grip of poverty in their communities. People like you have helped it get off to a strong start already:
- Today, Church Action on Poverty Sunday, dozens of churches around the UK are holding services for Church Action on Poverty Sunday, and raising funds to help people speak truth to power. If your church is one of them, don’t forget to let us know how your event goes!
- Over 350 church leaders from around the UK have added their voices to a message we published this week, calling on all our churches to make a stronger commitment to being alongside people in marginalised communities.
We’re very grateful for the ways you already support us, which help people to take actions like these. But regular, dependable donations are essential to building a movement that can keep speaking truth to power in the coming years. If you are able to, please consider making a regular donation to Church Action on Poverty.
Every bit of support makes a difference. Just FIVE people giving £10 a month could support another local partner, like the food bank choir, to speak truth to power each year! You can set up a direct debit securely online, by clicking the link below:
