Lowering prescription drug and healthcare costs: Americans are often forced to choose between affording life-saving medication and putting food on the table — like Julia from Denver, whose dad was forced to spend $72,000 a year on medication for his heart condition. The IRA helped lower prescription drug costs. Under this law, Medicare is required to negotiate lower drug costs, and prescription drug costs are capped for seniors at $2,000 a year.
Making the economy work for everyone: The IRA ensures that the biggest corporations making over $1 billion in profit a year pay their fair share. Michael helped write this part of the law — because Colorado teachers, firefighters, and law enforcement officials shouldn’t be paying more in taxes than billion-dollar corporations.
Investing in climate action and clean energy: The IRA set aside billions of dollars to help confront climate change and invest in clean energy. It will help address the 1,200 year drought we face in the West, restore the health of our forests, and prevent wildfires from threatening our communities. We're already seeing clean energy companies expand their operations and create thousands of jobs in our state. Altogether, this historic law has put the United States on track to reduce emissions by 40% by 2030.
For too long, the status quo in the United States has allowed giant corporations and special interests to get ahead, while our communities are left behind. The Inflation Reduction Act is helping change that.
