John, I sat down with The Texan earlier
this month to discuss the politically-driven impeachment of Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. You can watch the interview on their website, or listen here.
Last November, the Texas House took an alarming step by caving to Democrat calls to impeach Attorney
General Paxton. But here's the kicker: they did it without considering direct evidence, without allowing proper questioning of witnesses, and without
affording Attorney General Paxton the chance to present a defense. |
This unprecedented move is not only a blatant disregard for the principles of fairness and justice, it’s forbidden under Texas law.

House Speaker Dade Phelan wants nothing more than to use this sham impeachment as a way to score
political points with his Democrat colleagues in the House. House members didn’t even know what was going on until 48 hours before the
vote. And then, instead of leaving members to vote their conscience, Phelan and his allies whipped votes and bullied House Republicans behind the
scenes. As Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas, it is my
job to amplify the views of grassroots Republicans. And less than a year ago, it was grassroots Republicans just like you who overwhelmingly
re-elected Ken Paxton to another term. Texas voters have made their voice loud and clear, and we cannot let Speaker Phelan, Karl Rove, and their
donor-class allies undo the results of a primary election simply because their candidate lost.
Will you join
me today in standing up to this injustice? |
Paxton’s impeachment trial is set to begin in the Texas Senate on September 5th. Grassroots Republicans must make
their voices heard if they want these charges dismissed and our legislators to return to policy-making.
Please, take just a moment out of your day to sign our petition and make your voice heard. Together, we have the power
to remind our legislators of what we sent them to Austin to do in the first place — legislate, not conduct witch-hunts. |
