Dear friend,

Right now, our team of 5,900+ dedicated humanitarians are working to deliver life-changing support in some of the world’s most challenging environments.

In honor of World Humanitarian Day this Saturday, will you take a moment to send a message of thanks to our extraordinary team members who have dedicated their lives to helping others?

Roughly 86 percent of our team members are from the countries in which they work. They are investing in building stronger, more resilient communities alongside their fellow citizens. We invite you to meet just a few of our colleagues below.

Meet Maria in Colombia

Maria discovered Mercy Corps when she migrated to Colombia from Venezuela and found a safe space for her family through Mercy Corps’ support services. Maria now works as a social change technician for Mercy Corps, providing emergency assistance to refugees to help them meet their basic needs, including clean water, food, and housing.

She believes she’s able to create a strong connection with the people she serves because of what she’s been through. "I value having been a participant and being able to redistribute my knowledge," Maria says. "They ask me how I got to where I am. And I tell them: by going through everything that you are."

Meet Eirene in Indonesia

Eirene grew up in a low-income community in a rural area — just south of where she now works as a Mercy Corps health program officer, serving a community of coffee farmers. She has faced many of the same barriers to education and financial opportunity that local program participants face.

"I lived in a remote area where to go to a small shop, or meet other people, we had to walk for kilometers," she says. "Then, I received a better education. I was touched by my own experience and wanted to help people living in an area who face difficulties in accessing what they need."

Meet Justine in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC)

Justine is a Mercy Corps health and nutrition officer in DRC, where she coaches pregnant and breastfeeding women about how to improve their health and nutrition. She feels that the program has been as much of a learning experience for her as it has been in service to the women she supports.

"As a woman, I enjoy training and supporting the transformation of my female participants," she says. "Four years later [since I began working with the program], they have become self-sufficient...It motivates me. It is my joy."

I am so grateful for all that our team members, volunteers, and local partners do for families around the world. With the combined efforts of supporters like you alongside the communities we serve — we have the power to create a better tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Tjada D’Oyen McKenna Tjada D’Oyen McKenna
