Dear John,
As we celebrate the Lionesses' victory yesterday, it's crucial to remember that off the pitch, the UK's record against Australia, especially concerning opportunities for our youth, isn't as stellar. In the battle to attract and retain the brightest young minds, we're trailing behind.
Today, our A-Level graduates face daunting challenges. University tuition fees are skyrocketing with no job assurance post-graduation. Despite rising unemployment, we see chronic labour shortages in key sectors.
Moreover, the dream of a European gap-year is now riddled with visa fees, work restrictions, and roaming charges. Add to this the surge in living costs, and our youth are facing an uphill battle.
Australia, on the other hand, is capitalising on our shortcomings. Their government has made significant strides in childcare, housing affordability, and work-life balance. With higher wages and better living conditions, it's no surprise that 35,000 young Brits are flocking to Australia annually, while only a fraction of Australians come here.

The UK must prioritise the needs of its young workforce. Reintegrating into the Erasmus scheme, supporting young musicians affected by Brexit, and establishing a youth mobility scheme with our European neighbours are just a few steps in the right direction.
Keir Starmer, if elected, must show our youth that they are valued. Investing in their future is not just about the next election but about ensuring the UK remains competitive on the global stage.
Like the Lionesses, we too can rise to the occasion and compete with the best.
Let's champion a brighter future for our youth.
Best wishes,
Naomi Smith
