Unbelievable, isn’t it? As countries across Europe battle devastating wildfires and extreme heat, Rishi Sunak’s government announced they will hand out 100 new oil and gas licences.

This is a climate disaster.

Scientists have made it clear that fossil fuel extraction must become a thing of the past. Yet our Prime Minister is set on “maxing out” every last drop of oil [1]. It's genuinely scary seeing our Prime Minister go down this road while climate-fuelled floods and fires ravage large parts of the world.

But it doesn’t stop there. Sunak also said he wants to approve drilling at Rosebank - the UK’s largest undeveloped oil field.

We can’t sit back and watch this government add fuel to the fire. We must keep pressuring them to stop fuelling climate chaos. But we can't do it alone. With your support we can keep pushing for change. Your contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference.

Last week brave Greenpeace activists scaled Rishi Sunak’s house to demand an end to fossil fuel licencing [2]. We've tried every which way to get our message across – petitions, open letters, court cases. The alarms are going off but our government isn’t listening. Taking peaceful action is a core value at Greenpeace and after careful consideration we took our message straight to the Prime Minister. This is his government and he is personally responsible for the decisions it makes.

It’s thanks to our supporters that we can hold our government to account but there’s more to be done. Together, we can push our government to deliver on cheaper, greener solutions that will bring energy bills down and help tackle the climate crisis.
