John,

Back in April, we filed a criminal complaint against Clarence Thomas and asked that the Department of Justice investigate whether Thomas broke the law when he kept his travel with and gifts from Harlan Crow secret.

Now we know that his wrongdoing was even more extensive than that:

ProPublica: “Clarence Thomas’ 38 Vacations: The Other Billionaires Who Have Treated the Supreme Court Justice to Luxury Travel”

The ethics crisis at the Supreme Court is not business as usual. We need to treat it as the threat it is. That means—among other things—that the Department of Justice must investigate Clarence Thomas.

That’s why we’re so glad that a group of leading House Democrats wrote to the DOJ demanding they open an investigation into Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

The letter calls for the DOJ to look into Thomas “consistently failing to report significant gifts he received from Harlan Crow and other billionaires for nearly two decades—in defiance of his duty under federal law."

John, we couldn’t agree more.

When we wrote our complaint in April, we stated that under the Ethics in Government Act, Thomas is required to disclose travel and other gifts, with the source and a brief description, including the value – and that it appeared Justice Thomas violated this law. Now it looks like he violated it even more often than we thought at the time.

The Supreme Court should set the standard for ethical conduct, but instead we have a Court that acts as though it is above our democracy rather than part of it.

Join the calls today for the DOJ to investigate Clarence Thomas. Can we count on you to add your name? →

Thanks for signing,
