In this newsletter: Both Pittsburgh's Chief of Police Larry Scirotto and Mayor Ed Gainey are resistant to a consulting firm's suggestion of shifting 188 officers out of patrol to other, more specialized roles, leaving reform advocates who helped Gainey get elected at odds with him.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health and the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health released the findings of three studies that examine the relationship between living near fracking operations and childhood cancers, asthma and birth outcomes. While the studies, did not identify the cause of the health problems, they did conclude that there were numerous correlations.

New ministries push LGBTQ Catholics to question: Can the church be an inclusive space?

On Aug. 26, we’re partnering with the Whitehall Public Library for a fun, useful and free session presented by journalists Rich Lord and Lajja Mistry. You’ll learn how to think like an investigative reporter and how to access hard-to-find info on businesses, landlords, campaign finances and more. Lunch will be provided by Whitehall Public Library.
