Government ministers have just been given new powers to unravel vital environmental protections.
Our waters and air are filthy with pollution and wildlife loss is rampant. So the UK should be strengthening its protections. But now ministers can rip them up without any proper scrutiny.
We’ve written an open letter to all government departments to ask them to resist the government’s deregulation drive. And instead strengthen environmental protections. Please make it more powerful by signing it too.

These new powers, which will be in force for 3 years, pose a serious threat to our health. And our country’s precious wildlife.
But government departments have the opportunity to do the right thing.
Let’s show them how much we value clean rivers, safe air, our beautiful green spaces and all the species that live in them.
Let’s tell them to protect the laws that protect what we love. And to resist dangerous deregulation of precious protections.
Tens of thousands of us spoke out recently against plans that would have seen hundreds of protections scrapped this December. Together we helped stop those plans.
Now we all need to speak out again. And prevent these protections from being chipped away over the next 3 years.
