Appeals Court States FDA Expanded Abortion Pill Improperly, Must Return Safeguards to Drug
Alliance Defending Freedom: In a victory for women’s health, a unanimous panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit ruled Wednesday that the Food and Drug Administration must restore critical safeguards for chemical abortion drugs and disallow their shipment by mail. Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing four medical associations and four doctors experienced in caring for pregnant and post-abortive women asked the 5th Circuit to uphold a federal district court’s decision protecting the health and safety of women and girls against chemical abortion drugs. The court’s ruling prohibits abortion providers from sending chemical abortion drugs through the mail, which the FDA had been allowing since 2021 in direct violation of longstanding federal law (Alliance Defending Freedom). Washington Post: Lawyers defending the drug said the antiabortion challengers had no legal right — or standing — to file the lawsuit because they were not directly harmed by the FDA’s approval of the abortion pill. They also argued that allowing a court to revoke approval of an approved medication would jeopardize access to non-abortion drugs and more broadly harm medical research and innovation (Washington Post). Live Action: Can the abortion pill be reversed? Thousands of babies are alive today because of Dr. Delgado’s work in countering the effects of mifepristone. Using the natural hormone progesterone, medical professionals have saved over 4,000 lives through APR (Twitter).

Court of Appeals in DC Finds the City Had Two Different Standards: One for BLM, One for Pro-Life Protesters
Townhall: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit found the city “all but abandoned enforcement of the defacement ordinance” during the Black Lives Matter protests and riots in 2020 while going after pro-life protesters who used chalk outside an abortion clinic. The Frederick Douglass Foundation and Students for Life of America filed the lawsuit against the city after two pro-life activists were arrested in 2020. The court agreed Washington, D.C. “selectively” enforced the anti-graffiti ordinance and found numerous examples of BLM vandals getting away with defacing property with anti-police messages (Townhall). Defense Attorney Maria Medvin: In 2020, DC police arrested 2 pro-life protesters for chalking “Black Pre-Born Lives Matter” but never arrested any BLM protesters for covering streets, sidewalks, and storefronts with paint and chalk. TODAY, after an appeal, the DC Circuit ruled that the pro-life protesters plausibly alleged that DC discriminated on the basis of viewpoint in the selective enforcement of its defacement ordinance (Twitter).

Biden Announces Visit to Hawaii
Hill: President Biden will travel to Hawaii next week to meet with first responders and tour damage from the catastrophic wildfires on the island as the death toll continues to rise. At least 106 deaths have been confirmed as of Wednesday morning, but officials still anticipate the number to climb as recovery efforts continue. Video footage captured by Maui residents suggests downed utility lines may have caused the massive fires (Hill). HotAir: Biden issued a major disaster declaration for Hawaii last Thursday and I think that he was hoping it was all that he would have to do. He remained silent for four days before issuing the no comment remark. Let’s remember that Joe Biden ran as an empathetic man. He suffered loss in his life, as have many people, and because of that, voters were reassured that Joe Biden can feel their pain. It was mostly campaign spin, though, as Americans are now finding out. After each major event, Team Biden seems to calculate where or not it is politically advantageous to him to go. He makes a beeline for cities that experience mass shootings, so that he can lecture about guns, not mentally ill shooters (HotAir).

Biden Celebrates the First Year of the Inflation Reduction Act
Wall Street Journal: It isn’t surprising that President Biden is marking the Inflation Reduction Act’s first anniversary by traveling the country trying to convince voters that the law is working and the economy is getting better. A recent CNN poll found Americans still consider the economy the most pressing issue facing the country. More than half of Americans think the economy is bad and getting worse, and only 37% approve of Mr. Biden’s handling of the economy. Just 30% approve of his handling of inflation (Wall Street Journal). Townhall: John Podesta just spent three minutes at the White House press briefing explaining how the “Inflation Reduction Act” is actually just a massive piece of climate legislation (Twitter). RNC Research: “Polls keep showing that people are broadly unhappy with the president’s handling of inflation…and the president has said he wished he didn’t call this the ‘Inflation Reduction Act.’ What should you call it?” JOHN PODESTA: “It’s a complicated bill” (Twitter).

Muslims in Pakistan Accuse Christians of Blasphemy, Desecrating Quran So They Burn the Churches, Homes to the Ground
Daily Wire: A Christian community in Pakistan found itself under attack on Wednesday as a Muslim mob reportedly vandalized churches, torched homes, and burned Bibles after two Christians were accused of blasphemy.  At least two churches were vandalized and one was burned in Jaranwala, a largely Christian area in the Faisalabad district in eastern Pakistan. In addition to the mob – armed with rocks and sticks – attacking places of worship, at least one home was demolished while several others were vandalized, though some reports say more churches were damaged. Many Christians were forced to flee their homes for safety (Daily Wire). Bishop Azad Marshall: We, Bishops, Priests and lay people are deeply pained and distressed at the Jaranwala incident in the Faisalabad District in Pakistan. A church building is being burnt as I type this message. Bibles have been desecrated and Christians have been tortured and harassed having been falsely accused of violating the Holy Quran. We cry out for justice and action from law enforcement and those who dispense justice and the safety of all citizens to intervene immediately and assure us that our lives are valuable in our own homeland that has just celebrated independence and freedom (Twitter).

Minnesota Residents Claim Their City Has Transformed Into a “garbage can” Due to Crime
Julio Rosas: It’s not just the residents in Minneapolis who are growing upset over the high crime rate. During a town hall meeting in St. Paul, community members in the Lowertown neighborhood say crime has gotten out of control there too. People at the meeting said the city has become a “garbage can” and unsafe. One man said he is considering obtaining a concealed carry permit for his safety. The majority of speakers said constant, open drug use, public lewdness, burglaries and sexual assaults have created an environment of anxiety and apprehension (Townhall). RNC Research: Residents of Saint Paul, Minnesota, say rampant crime has turned the Democrat-run city into “a garbage can”: “It’s been allowed to become like that — and it’s sad and it’s pathetic” “I feel like getting a license to carry because of my fear” (Twitter).

Target Revenue Down Nearly Five Percent from Last Year Amid Backlash from Controversial Merchandise
National Review: Target suffered a significant drop in third quarter sales after consumers rebelled against the retailer for its scandalous LGBT-themed merchandise. Sales dipped in June after the Target rolled out its Pride collection, which featured pro-gender transition clothing such as a “tuck-friendly” swimsuit to obscure male genitalia and children’s items from a brand that sells Satanist-inspired products. Target was fully aware of brand Abprallen’s Satanist-inspired merchandise, some of which glorifies violence against alleged “transphobes,” when it approved the collaboration. Target lost $9 billion in market value in about a week, with the stock falling from just over $160.00 to about $141.00 a share, amounting to a 12 percent drop. Target stock has decreased 16 percent so far this year (National Review). Daily Wire: Online sales fell nearly twice as much, 10.5%, Target said. The company also said that the number of transactions and the average dollar amount of a transaction fell this past quarter. Target’s total revenue of $24.8 billion was 4.9 percent lower than last year (Daily Wire).

Alec Baldwin Faces New Challenges in Fatal Shooting Case
Washington Examiner: Alec Baldwin could potentially face new charges over the accidental shooting that occurred while filming a movie in 2021, as a new report claims the gun used in the shooting had either been pulled or depressed. The new report examined both the revolver that was used on the set of the film and markings the gun left on a cartridge. The report stated that the gun’s firing was caused by “the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position,” followed by “the pull or rearward depression of the trigger.”  “Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver,” reads the report led by Lucien Haag of Forensic Science Services in Arizona (Washington Examiner).
