WILDLIFE UPDATE

Burrowing owls
Life underground

Dark caverns and tight spaces. It?s enough to send a shiver down one?s spine. Other than spelunkers and the gutsiest of climbers, most people easily avoid these kinds of spaces.?Yet for Wyoming?s wildlife, the mounds of loam and humus, rich clay and glistening mud present opportunity ? home. Of the more than 800 animal species in Wyoming, only a fraction reside underground. Other than creepy crawling critters, what kinds of animals live underground? Would you believe amphibians do? Mammals? *Even birds? [ [link removed] ]*

Wyoming toad recovery sees continued success

Wyoming toad

Approximately 800 Wyoming toads were released recently in a continued team effort to maintain a species endangered and exclusive to the Laramie area.?The release was part of an ongoing effort to assist in the recovery of the species once thought to be extinct. The Wyoming toad was common through the early-1970s but was believed extinct by 1985. Two years later, a small population was rediscovered. *The Wyoming Game and Fish Department has been involved with Wyoming toad recovery efforts for the last decade ? and continues to see success. Fire safety protocols a must for summer

Fire safety

We?ve all enjoyed the bountiful precipitation the past few months and the lush green landscapes that have emerged. But as temperatures rise vegetation begins to dry, creating fuels that can create high fire dangers. *To help protect wildlife habitat and other public lands, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department implements fire restrictions on department-managed properties where people camp and recreate. The 2023 Wyoming greenup

If you?ve been out and about the state of Wyoming the last month or so, you?ve no doubt noticed that much of the state is glowing green. Not too surprising, considering the state is coming off one of its more substantial winters in recent times. While considerable snowfall took a harsh toll on deer and antelope populations in some regions, regular rains this spring and summer have provided productive habitats for those same species. See how the Cowboy State is bouncing back by watching the video below.
