Republican legislators just pushed through a slew of legislation enshrining the right to discriminate against LGBTQ+ North Carolinians. I vetoed their bills, but the GOP used their one-vote supermajorities to pass them anyway.

It’s clear that Republican leadership is focused on the wrong priorities. Instead of working hard to pass a budget and start Medicaid Expansion (that we’ve already agreed to) when North Carolinians are getting kicked off their health plans, they’re choosing to discriminate.

Far-right members of the GOP would rather spend their time dividing us — and attacking some of the most vulnerable among us — than doing the work of serving the needs of our communities. Instead, they’ll damage our state’s reputation and economy just as they did with the “Bathroom Bill” that we repealed back in 2017.

John, LGBTQ+ North Carolinians deserve safety, respect, and dignity — so we MUST defeat the GOP next year and restore protections for LGBTQ+ folks.
