Dear Friend,

Yesterday, I had the privilege of holding town halls in both Rising Sun and Abingdon. I’d like to take a moment to thank those who were able to join us and to share some of the topics that were addressed.

The National Debt:

Throughout the evening, I answered numerous questions from hard-working taxpayers with serious concerns about the Biden Administration’s reckless spending and poor fiscal priorities. Like you, I am deeply concerned about the historic deficit and runaway inflation fueled by President Biden's reckless spending.

Over decades, Washington has continued to expand its annual spending binge while refusing to take concrete steps to end the madness. In July, President Biden managed to amass a cumulative deficit nearing $2 trillion. This historic number is indicative of the gross fiscal irresponsibility pervasive in Washington, D.C.

Parental Rights:

Last night, I heard from many people about their concerns with Maryland’s public schools.

On March 23, 2023, the House passed the Parents Bill of Rights Act. I proudly voted in favor of the Bill and if enacted, this bill would enshrine five core principles on the rights of parents.

·         Parents have the right to know what their children are being taught.

·         Parents have the right to be heard.

·         Parents have the right to see the school budget and spending.

·         Parents have the right to protect their child’s privacy.

·         Parents have the right to keep their children safe.

I hope you will continue to share your input about how I can work to address parents’ concerns at the federal level.

Border Security:

My conversations last night confirmed the consequences of President Biden’s failed border policies are far-reaching and have been felt by people not only across the country but right here in Maryland’s First Congressional District.

Opioid overdoses are sadly a fact of life and are increasingly driven by deadly fentanyl which enters our wide-open southern border.

Although the Biden Administration continues to turn a blind eye to the ever-increasing crisis at our nation’s southern border, I will not.

That is why I voted in favor of H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, which would restore funding to Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and stop illegal immigration. If enacted, this legislation would also help stop the open flow of deadly opioids into our state and country.

Election Integrity:

Another topic of concern was the integrity of our elections in Maryland.

I believe all legal citizens have a right to vote, and my oath of office obligates me to uphold that right. Since our right to vote as American citizens is paramount, our government has a duty to protect the integrity of our elections.

Article I, Section 4, Clause 1 of our U.S. Constitution holds states responsible to administer elections:

The Times, Places and Manner of holding Elections for Senators and Representatives, shall be prescribed in each State by the Legislature thereof; but the Congress may at any time by Law make or alter such Regulations, except as to the Places of choosing Senators.

I am always interested in hearing your experiences and concerns with the Maryland voting process. I strongly advise you to reach out to your State Senators and Delegates about this important issue, as they are responsible for election law.
