Federal Grant Opportunities: August 16, 2023

My office is sharing the following information on federal grant opportunities available to you.

Featured Funding Opportunities

U.S. Department of Energy: Energy Future Grants (EFG) Program
- EFG provides $27 million in financial assistance and technical assistance to support local, state, and tribal government-led partnership efforts that will advance clean energy program innovation. EFG seeks to enhance energy affordability and access for communities, ensuring the broad benefits of a clean energy economy—including heath, economic development and jobs and emissions reductions—flow to disadvantaged communities.

- Full Application must be submitted by September 30, 2023, 5PM ET

Community Food Projects Competitive Grant Program (CFPCGP)
- The CFPCGP aims to bring together stakeholders from distinct parts of the food system and to foster understanding of national food security trends and how they might improve local food systems. There are two project types:
  - Planning Projects
    - The purpose is to provide early-stage investment in new, startup projects or to invest in completing project plans toward the improvement of community food security.
  - Community Food Projects
    - The purpose is to seek solutions over the longer term rather than focusing on short-term food relief. They will seek comprehensive solutions to problems across all levels of the food system from farmer to consumer. Projects should not be designed to merely support individual food pantries, farmers markets, community gardens or other established projects. Rather, the projects should build on and encourage innovative long-term solutions to food and nutrition security.
- The deadline for applications is 11:59 pm EDT on October 30, 2023. Learn more about previously funded projects here!
Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) Program
- The DERA Program funds grants and rebates that protect human health and improve air quality by reducing harmful emissions from diesel engines.
- Eligible Uses of Funding:
  - School buses
  - Class 5 – Class 8 heavy-duty highway vehicles
  - Locomotive engines
  - Marine engines
  - Nonroad engines, equipment or vehicles used in construction, handling of cargo (including at ports or airports), agriculture, mining or energy production (including stationary generators and pumps).
- Applications must be submitted electronically to EPA no later than Friday, December 1, 2023, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) to be considered for funding.

Small Business Resources

New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC)
- The NYSBDC provides small business owners and entrepreneurs in New York with the highest quality, confidential business counseling, training, and business research at no cost.
- The Albany Small Business Development Center serves small businesses in the Capital Region. Since its start in 1984, the expert advisors of the Albany SBDC have worked directly with 26,807 businesses, helping them to invest $495,947,350 in the area's economy, and create or save 14,766 jobs.
  - You can make an appointment for counseling by calling 518-442-7232 or filling out their online form.

Inflation Reduction Act Climate Provisions Town Hall

Almost one year ago, Congress and President Biden passed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law.
This legislation, among other items, contains historic and ambitious goals to protect our climate and meet our nation's clean energy goals. To this end, I will be hosting a Town Hall in collaboration with the New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund (NYLCVEF) at 5:30PM on Wednesday, August 16th - on the one-year anniversary of IRA being signed into law - to inform community members of how the climate provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act will help us chart a greener and more sustainable future.

The Inflation Reduction Act – Energy Savings Hub and IRS Tax Credits

Last year, we took a major step forward in the push to address the climate crisis. The Inflation Reduction Act delivers unmatched investments in clean energy and emerging technologies like offshore wind, advances environmental justice, creates good-paying clean jobs, slashes pollution, and so much more.
The Department of Energy and the IRS have created online hubs to help all Americans understand and access clean energy tax credits and forthcoming rebates.
