John,
One of my proudest accomplishments this year is creating a first-of-its-kind paid year of service for high school grads in Maryland.
And on Monday, we announced the launch of applications for our first service class. (Applications are due September 1st. Go to Serving.MD.gov to apply.)
This is a passion project for me because I am living proof of the power of service. My journey to the governor's office was paved by individuals who believed in me and pushed me. I'm committed to now paying that service forward.
This generation of young people is facing unprecedented challenges – from gun violence to climate change to growing economic inequality. And while we are doing everything in our power to address these challenges from Annapolis, these policies cannot feed the souls of young people.
But service can.
Service gives you purpose. Service allows you to explore your talents. Service shows you the power of community and collective action rather than individualism.
Service will save us.
So, please, help spread the word to any Marylanders you know who are 18 to 21 years old. We have hundreds of opportunities available to earn a living wage and experience the power of service. They just need to go to Serving.MD.gov to apply.
Elevate,
Wes
P.S. My path to the governor's office was also paved by lots of people pitching in a little bit – and together, it all added up. If you're proud of the work we're doing in Annapolis, I'm asking you to pitch in a little bit ($5, $10, $20) to keep it going.
