Time and again, we've seen irresponsible Big Oil companies get away with hurting our environment and communities. From oil spills to endangering workers, oil executives put profits over communities and we all suffer.

On April 2, 2010, seven workers died when a heat exchanger ruptured, causing a catastrophic failure at what was then the Tesoro refinery in Anacortes, Washington. 
That tragedy could have been prevented if only the Big Oil giant had established common-sense protections to ensure the safety of its employees. 

Now, 13 years later, Washington State is finally moving to hold the oil industry accountable by establishing safety management standards. 

It is time for action – Join us in urging Washington State to adopt strong worker protections.

The Washington State Department of Labor and Industry has released a draft rule that will significantly improve refinery worker and community safety. It requires action, empowers workers, and protects all workers – not just refinery employees but also contractors.

As we transition to clean energy, Washington State remains home to multiple crude oil refineries. It’s not acceptable for people doing the dangerous work of refining to suffer just because fossil fuel executives want to protect their profits. 

Hold the oil industry accountable. Ensure that Washington State establishes the strongest worker protection requirements possible.
