Dear Friends,
THE CAMPAIGN GOES ON!
This very full edition of CAAT News (see the link below) tells of the
disappointing result of our challenge to the Government in the High Court,
gives a grim account of arms trade statistics worldwide, and scans the
horizon for the DSEI arms fair looming in September. We will keep on
campaigning against the horrors of the arms trade!
CAAT - CAAT News issue 266 - Summer 2023 [1]
WE CAN’T DO ANY OF OUR CAMPAIGNING WORK WITHOUT YOUR HELP – THANK YOU
FOR YOUR CONTINUING SUPPORT IN SO MANY WAYS!
Here are brief notes of just some of the articles in this issue - do read
on:
*
So much effort went into our JUDICIAL REVIEW against the UK Government's
arms sales to Saudi Arabia and such a long time waiting for the result made
our disappointment all the greater when our case was dismissed. We discuss
the ruling and its implications, as well as the current situation in Yemen,
on PAGE 3.
*
On PAGES 4 AND 5 we have a short statistical overview of how the ARMS TRADE
WORLDWIDE seems to operate like a scary yo-yo, and how strange new
alliances seem to be forged through the sales of arms.
*
Emily Apple, our Media Coordinator, reflects on her TRIP TO TURKEY for the
recent general election ON PAGE 8 and considers how President Erdoğan's
re-election may have devastating consequences for dissenting Turks and the
Kurdish people - all supported by the UK Government's policy of selling
arms to Turkey. PAGE 9 follows this with STOP ARMING TURKEY.
*
CAAT's activities in Scotland, as well as our challenge to the Scottish
Government to stop subsidising arms manufacturers, are covered on PP 12-13.
PLEASE DONATE TO SUPPORT CAAT’S WORK TO CAMPAIGN AT DSEI TO HALT THE ARMS
TRADE!
DSEI comes to London every other year, and we are getting ready to do our
bit to expose the exhibitors this September! CAAT SUPPORTERS will be
joining activists from many groups, all coming together as part of Stop the
Arms Fair.
We aim to RAISE FUNDS TO ENABLE INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS who might otherwise
not be able to attend to find a way TO JOIN THE DEMONSTRATIONS against this
despicable event. These include people who can't afford the travel costs
and those with special needs who might need assistance (such as taxis)
travelling from a station to East London.
IF YOU ARE ABLE TO, PLEASE DONATE TODAY HELPING US KEEP UP OUR PRESSURE ON
THE GOVERNMENT AND THE ARMS INDUSTRY. If you are not able to help at the
moment, you can read on for plenty of other ways to get involved in this
work in this CAAT News magazine.
