John, today marks two years since the Taliban regained control in Afghanistan. Together, we’re taking this moment to reflect on the ongoing crisis and how your support helps us work to protect children at this critical moment.
Together, we’ve served communities in Afghanistan for over 40 years providing nutrition, health care and educational support. Thanks to champions for children like you, we’ve reached 4.8 million people, including 1 million girls and 1.2 million women after restarting operations in September 2021, since the Taliban regained control.
The country remains in turmoil, and we’re extraordinarily concerned for the safety and well-being of children – especially girls. Families are increasingly taking desperate measures to survive and millions of children are currently at risk of being pushed into child labor, displacement, injury and death.
But Afghanistan is not the only place where children are facing worsening threats to their lives and futures. Children throughout the world are facing hunger, poverty, and instability, often worsened by the climate crisis. With your support, Save the Children remains as committed as ever to helping children in Afghanistan and across the globe grow up healthy, educated and safe.
