"Alabama Republicans reject call for 2nd majority Black district, despite Supreme Court ruling." -- AP News

"Republicans in Alabama put forth a map that both defies the Supreme Court and minimizes the power of black voters. Arrogance combined with racial animus -- too typical of the shameful history of that party in that state. We remain in the fight for fairness." -- A.G. Holder

Team, the fight to ensure fair representation for communities of color and uphold the principles of the Voting Rights Act (VRA) is at a crossroads. The audacious act of Alabama's legislature, in crafting a map that marginalizes voices and undermines the VRA, is nothing short of a "brazen defiance" of our judicial system and disregard of the very essence of our democracy -- the voice of the people.

After yesterday's hearing in Alabama, A.G. Holder's words echo even louder in our pursuit of justice: "The district court must soundly reject the legislature’s map."

But we cannot rely solely on words; our cause demands action, resilience, and the unyielding commitment of grassroots supporters like you who recognize the importance of fair representation and the protection of voting rights across the nation. Can we count on your support in the next phase of this fight for Alabama voters and beyond? >> [link removed]

As we witnessed Alabama's map manipulators clutching at straws to halt progress, we must embrace the transformative potential that lies within us. Our collective voice has the power to reshape the trajectory of our democracy, casting aside the shadows of injustice and elevating the voices of those who have been silenced for far too long.

Thank you for helping us reinforce our capacity to champion fair representation and protect voting rights.

In solidarity,
Olivia Mendoza
