Dear John,

We have a plan. And you’re part of it.

NH’s vision is a future where everyone has a place to call home and where low-income communities and communities of color stay and prosper in the Bay Area.

NPH’s plan is to secure the reforms we need to build a thriving and equitable Bay Area. And that starts by making it easier for voters to say yes to affordable housing and for the Bay Area to embrace equitable solutions.

As we work to place on the 2024 statewide ballot a measure that has the potential to unlock billions to help millions of Californians afford housing, CalMatter’s Ben Christopher explores the crux of the matter: our local governments have faced a daunting ⅔ voter threshold for bonds and taxes that fund affordable housing and a wide array of public infrastructure projects.

The proposed constitutional amendment could help local governments and communities meet their housing goals by lowering the 2/3 voter threshold for communities to pass local housing bonds.

The impact of this work would be immense. As NPH’s Policy Director Abram Diaz shares via the article: “If this passes in November, the lower threshold applicability will apply to other housing bonds that are also on the ballot so that they can really harness this new tool,” said Diaz with the Non-Profit Housing Association. “We don’t have a day to waste as we try to address the homeless crisis.”

John, this opportunity is critical for our communities and we’re eager to get the word out. Will you help us share this article with your networks?

What Now? Our coalition of affordable housing and homelessness organizations is proud to stand beside Assembly Speaker pro Tem Aguiar-Curry in this effort and will be working to make sure the Legislature passes this bill and brings this opportunity to voters.

Thank you for working alongside us. We’ll continue to alert you of any critical actions we can collectively take to advocate for deeper investments in our neighborhoods and communities moving forward.

Onward,

Abram Diaz smiling at camera
