As we approach spring, I am grateful for this opportunity to give you all an update on my recent work in Washington, D.C., and in South Texas on behalf of the 15th District of Texas.
As always, it is my honor and privilege to serve the 15th District of Texas. Here are a few highlights and updates from the past few weeks.
Congressman Gonzalez Presents $193,000,000 for Disaster Relief
On Thursday, I presented Hidalgo County $193 million for disaster relief. My office stands ready to help all of those who need assistance applying for these funds. I will continue to fight for our community and the 15th District of Texas.

Congressman Gonzalez Announces $49,900 for UTRGV Brain Research
On February 21, I announced $49,900 in federal grant funding for the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) for research on brain aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and dementia. I’m proud to support federal funding that will give scientists at UTRGV the resources they need to research our cognitive abilities and bring us closer to finding a cure.

Congressman Gonzalez Announces Karnes and Guadalupe Counties Small Businesses Eligible for $250,000 in Hurricane Harvey Relief
Small businesses in Karnes and Guadalupe Counties are eligible for grants from $50,000 to $250,000 for Hurricane Harvey relief. The United States and Texas will never forget the devastation that Hurricane Harvey caused. I encourage those who were impacted by this natural disaster to take full advantage of the financial resources available through Texas Back in Business.

Congressman Gonzalez Announces Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, and Brooks Counties Named Contiguous Disaster Counties
Hidalgo, Jim Hogg and Brooks Counties were named contiguous disaster counties due to ongoing drought conditions in South Texas. This designation will help our struggling counties and farmers by providing access to federal resources to combat these circumstances.

Congressman Gonzalez Votes to Advance Women's Rights and The Equal Rights Amendments
On February 13, I voted in favor of H.J.Res.79 to remove the arbitrary deadline for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) and put the country closer to ratification. Since the early 1900s, women have been fighting for equality and we have the opportunity to do the right thing. The Equal Rights Amendment will affirm the constitutional principle that ‘all men are created equal’ and give women the legal protections they rightfully deserve.

Congressman Gonzalez Announces Preliminary Funds for South Texas and Rio Grande Valley Schools
On February 13, I announced $11,686,696 in preliminary federal funds for Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) Title I allocations for South Texas schools and $108,034,097 for schools in the Rio Grande Valley. I will continue to support public schools and advocate on behalf of top notch education programs for the 15th District of Texas to ensure our children are getting the best education possible.

Congressman Gonzalez Announces Federal Funding Opportunity for Texas Fire Departments and First Responders
On February 11, I announced an opportunity for fire departments and first responders in the 15th District of Texas to receive funding for enhanced safety equipment and training. The program is intended to provide critically needed resources to enhance the safety of the public and firefighters with respect to fire and fire-related hazards. Congressman Gonzalez Condemns Trump Administration Attempt to Cut Medicaid Services
On February 7, I voted to pass H.Res. 826, Expressing disapproval of the Trump administration’s harmful actions towards Medicaid, in response to the Trump Administration announcing a new waiver authority, referred to as the “Health Adult Opportunity.” This would allow states to receive a waiver to block grant their Medicaid programs for adults.
