New MSF report shows damaging health impacts of US-Mexico migration policies
New migration policies imposed by the US and Mexico are trapping many Central Americans in dangerous conditions, with severe consequences for their physical and mental health, according to a new Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) report released this month. Based on 480 interviews and testimonies from Central American migrants and asylum seekers, experiences of MSF staff, and medical data from more than 26,000 people helped along the migration route through Mexico during the first nine months of 2019, the report details high levels of violence and ill treatment suffered by migrants and refugees in their home countries, along the migration route, and in the custody of US and Mexican authorities.
