The two-year temporary immigration status for Afghan evacuees is set to expire soon. The uncertainty around their immigration status has had concrete effects on Afghans’ employment, housing, and mental health, complicating their path to stability in the US. They face a backlogged immigration system and a lack of information and pro bono legal assistance capacity to navigate it.
