Message from Rep. Tracey Mann. Having Trouble Viewing? Click Here. Fellow Kansan, Thank you for subscribing to my newsletter! I’m excited to update you on my work in Washington, D.C. and the First District of Kansas. It is an honor to represent Kansans in the Big First District in the 118th Congress. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America – I serve to fight and work to make it stronger, and I believe our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Mann.House.Gov In the District Fighting Veterinarian Shortages in Rural Kansas Rural areas across Kansas are facing an alarming shortage of veterinarians - especially large and food animal veterinarians. In Kansas, the state legislature has made great strides to recruit and retain hardworking professionals like Tera Barnhardt and Chance Kopsa, but we must build upon those efforts. I’m using my voice in Congress and on the House Agriculture Committee to advocate for tools to keep committed veterinarians in practice and in the places where we need them the most. In June, I met with the Farm Journal Foundation and several rural veterinary ambassadors, including Kansas State University’s Dr. Brad White. I appreciate Tera, Chance, Brad, and others in the profession. Together, we must work to prioritize the interests of food animal veterinarians in the next Farm Bill. Our food safety, public health, and rural communities depend on it. Click here to read about America's need for more veterinary professionals. National FFA Reaches Record Number of Student Members Congratulations to the National FFA Organization on reaching a new record number of student members! 945,988 FFA members around the country are achieving premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. I am especially proud of the more than 12,500 Kansas FFA Association members as they are the next generation of food and agriculture. As a former Quinter FFA chapter officer and the co-founder of the Congressional FFA Caucus, I’m inspired by the continual growth and student involvement in the Kansas FFA Association and National FFA Organization. In the Office Creating a Future That's Built on Freedom As I travel the state and meet with Kansans, I hear concerns about infringement on our Constitutional rights. House Republicans are standing for freedom in the face of government overreach, and we are passing legislation that enshrines the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. We need to create a future that's built on freedom. President Ronald Reagan said it best, freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. It is our duty to fight for it and protect it for generations of Americans to come. I'm committed to preserving our Constitutional rights and fighting against the federal government when it tries to control our lives. Monitoring WOTUS: Changes Coming September 1 In March, Congress passed a resolution under the Congressional Review Act to strike down President Biden’s Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) rule, which removes longstanding bipartisan exemptions for common water features like ponds and streams found on private property. President Biden vetoed the resolution, leaving the rule intact. In May, the U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled in Sackett V. EPA to protect landowners' rights and limit government overreach under President Biden's Waters of the U.S. rule and the Clean Water Act. Now, the Biden Administration is scrambling to tweak their terrible rule just enough to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling and soliciting zero stakeholder feedback in the process. September 1 is the scheduled release date for the amended rule, and I am watching closely. While President Biden would like to federally regulate every small stream, ditch, and puddle from sea to shining sea, American producers have been the careful custodians of their own resources for centuries. I will keep fighting this rule tooth and nail on behalf of the people who feed, fuel, and clothe us all, and also on behalf of all Americans whose businesses and private lives are being affected by this big government encroachment onto their private property. In the News WATCH HERE: Forbes: GOP Lawmaker Accuses Biden of Using Lesser Prairie-Chicken As 'Proxy' In War On Fossil Fuels I am proud of my colleagues for voting for my resolution to reject the Biden Administration's listing of the lesser prairie-chicken as threatened. President Biden's use of the Endangered Species Act is a proxy war on agriculture and energy in Kansas and across the country. Farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers are the original conservationists, and the federal government must get out of their way and let them do what they do best.
