Dear Friend,
Social Security is one of the most popular social programs in U.S.
history.
In poll after poll, 70 to 80 percent of Americans oppose cuts to Medicare
or Social Security.^1 That includes the majority of Republicans,
Democrats, Independents, men, women . . . everyone.
But last month, Donald Trump told the billionaire global elites in Davos
that he would cut Social Security. And then he actually did it, releasing
a budget that slashes more than a trillion dollars from Medicare and
Social Security.
You'd think that it would have been front page news.^2 There's only one
problem: the mainstream media has almost TOTALLY ignored Trump's attack on
Social Security.
We need to draw public attention to this NOW to stop the president in his
tracks, but it'll require a significant investment of resources to break
through the media blackout.

Security, Medicare, and Medicaid?
Just before the White House released Trump's latest budget, Trump tweeted,
“We will not be touching your Social Security or Medicare.”^3
But as usual, he lied. The truth is that the White House budget takes $750
million out of Medicare, along with a trillion dollars more from Medicaid
and the Children's Health Insurance Program.^4 Furthermore, the budget
takes a $76 million bite out of Social Security disability benefits.^5
Trump is lying because he knows just how politically damaging it is to
threaten Social Security and Medicare, as three-quarters of Americans are
against cuts.^6
Trump should be facing a major public backlash, but the media is ignoring
this bombshell, distracted by everything from the coronavirus to Michael
Bloomberg to Donald Trump's celebrity pardons.
Demand Progress is driving constituents to their representatives to fight
back against these harmful budget cuts. Will you donate?
