Joey is in his second year at community college and wants to transfer to a larger, four-year university. He has a specific set of needs as he navigates this transition and has questions he needs to answer.
Students like Joey who are already in college need a variety of supports to help them through their postsecondary education. Whether it’s transferring credits to a new university, finding flexible employment options while in school, or understanding financial aid options, access to data can support students as they navigate their unique journeys through college.

When state data systems are designed to enable access, users of all kinds—including and in addition to college students—can answer questions, make decisions, and support college students as they navigate points of transition.
College-based advisors and career service staff need access to data to:
* Help students understand the requirements and outcomes of different career pathways;
* Advise students on how to progress their course taking; and
* Identify and intervene with students who may be off track to meeting their career goals.
The public needs access to data to:
* Answer questions about program enrollment and costs;
* Understand how to navigate the pathways between two- and four-year colleges; and
* Effect change by examining outcomes for their community and advocating for increased access to resources for students.
Policymakers need access to data to:
* Determine where to allocate resources; and
* Answer questions about the impact of student support programs, what student populations need support, and how quality education outcomes map to in-demand careers and serve labor market needs.
