Environmental Public Health Tracking: Data Updates

Recent Environmental Health Data Updates

Asthma

While asthma prevalence in Minnesota has been and continues to be lower than the national average, the health disparities that exist in Minnesota are among the worst in the nation. Low-income groups and communities of color commonly experience higher levels of environmental exposures that widen the asthma disparity gap. *See 2020 asthma in Minnesota data [ [link removed] ] now available in a new, more interactive format.*

COPD

The prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) increases with age. See 2020 data maps of COPD hospitalizations in Minnesota by county and zip code, and charts of prevalence, hospitalizations, and deaths by age and sex. While smoking is the leading cause of COPD, environmental factors can exacerbate COPD. Learn more at Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease [ [link removed] ].

Kindergarten immunizations

Childhood vaccines offer life-saving protection from many very serious diseases. The vaccines that protect against whooping cough (pertussis), diphtheria, tetanus, polio, measles, mumps, rubella, hepatitis B, and chickenpox (varicella) are required for kindergarten enrollment in Minnesota, unless a legal exemption has been obtained.
See maps developed to illustrate vaccine rates by county, school district or school:
