We’ve been working around the clock since late last week assisting with the rescue and care of nearly 150 dogs and cows from a property in Ellis County, Texas, who were living in dangerous, cruel conditions in extreme heat. When investigators arrived on scene, they discovered the dogs and puppies living in various areas across the property with little access to fresh water and food.

Many of the dogs were contained in a shed-like structure with no light or air circulation, an internal temperature of over 110 degrees and elevated levels of ammonia. The dogs had soiled, matted coats, and some were found underweight and suffering from untreated medical issues that require immediate veterinary attention.
The cows had no access to proper food or water or adequate care for their hooves and showed signs of intestinal parasites. Sadly, deceased dogs were also found on the property.

The dogs and cows removed from the property are receiving urgent specialized medical care, and behavioral treatment and enrichment as needed from our expert teams. Currently, animal cruelty charges are pending, and our teams are assisting local authorities with investigative and legal support, forensics exams and behavior evaluations. These efforts are in addition to operational planning, animal removal and transport, evidence collection and crime scene processing that took place late last week. During this critical time, we worked alongside the Tri-City Animal Shelter & Adoption Center, who provided short-term shelter for some of the animals. Additionally, the SPCA of Texas provided transport assistance to help safely relocate the animals.
Your support is urgently needed during times like these when animals are most in need.
