Dear Friend of MCV,

There is so much to love about living in a rural state. But Maine’s long backroads and open spaces also mean that many of us need to get in cars to get where we need to go – in fact, about 89% of Mainers [1] depend on cars for their daily commute.

At the same time, transportation is our country’s largest source of polluting carbon emissions. [2] The good news is that many Mainers see the benefits of zero-emission vehicles for the climate, their health, and fuel costs – and demand for electric vehicles (EVs) is quickly outpacing supply. [3]

Now, Maine has the opportunity to adopt standards for cleaner cars and trucks that would increase the availability of EVs, providing a climate-friendly option for Maine drivers that also allows for savings at the gas pump.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection is holding a hearing on the proposed new Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks rules this Thursday, August 17 at the Augusta Civic Center. MCV will be there to testify in support of these new rules and we hope you’ll join us!

The hearing starts at 9 AM, and we’ll gather outside with other supporters at 8:30 AM.

Our friends at the Natural Resources Council of Maine are bringing signs to share, and we’ll be wearing blue for clean air!

Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks Public Hearing
Thursday, August 17, 8:30 AM
Augusta Civic Center
76 Community Drive, Augusta ME 04330
Wear blue for clean air!

We know the opposition will be out in force, and public support for clean cars and trucks at the hearing will be essential for making sure that these rules are successfully implemented.

With Maine’s Climate Action Plan and Clean Transportation Roadmap, we’ve set bold state targets for reducing the transportation emissions that are exacerbating the climate crisis. Now, we need to ensure that we have the policies in place to meet our goals and accelerate along the road to a cleaner future.

We hope to see you there!
