Friend,
Trump’s officially been criminally
indicted by a grand jury in Fulton County for attempting to overturn
President Biden’s 2020 victory in Georgia.
Here’s the takeaway: We knew Trump was guilty the moment we heard his phone call with
Brad Raffensperger. So, when he acted like a mob boss and ordered
Raffensperger to find 11,000 votes and overturn the results in
Georgia, I wasn’t surprised. The man throws out democratic principles
like he tosses McDonald’s wrappers.
Now, we can’t normalize the damage
he’s inflicted on our democracy. But we can’t hang our hats on these
indictments. We’re on the fourth one now. The fourth! And I still hear
the same chorus call from the pundits about how this one is
different.
By the way - do you know what
happens when another indictment hits? Trump's fundraising goes up. And
believe it or not, most pro democracy groups actually see a
fundraising hit – because too many people out there think, "Oh,
this'll be the one that gets Trump – you don't need my help." That's a
trap, and you know it. Fortunately,
we never fall into this trap. We never quit. We know we have to be the
ones to stop Trump.
Here, the pundits' logic is that
because this case isn’t under federal jurisdiction, Trump can’t quash
it when he’s President. They think that even if he takes back the
White House, our legal system will hold him to account.
Really. That’s
where our mental gymnastics are taking us now. Here’s my question to
them: do you really imagine that Trump will let himself be hauled out
of the White House and into a Fulton County jail cell?
The most lawless man in U.S. political history isn’t just
going to follow the orders of a district attorney. He’ll fight like
hell and he’ll have the power of the U.S. presidency behind
him.
If you care about these indictments
and believe Trump needs to be held to account, there’s only one thing
to do: keep him away from the presidency.
It
doesn’t matter how many separate indictments the man wracks up. Three,
four, five - hundred, The only thing that stops him is the ballot box.
And the only group that stops him there is us.
