On my weekly "Capitol Hill Report," I spoke with Tom Williamson of KIIC in Albia and Jacob Hall of the Iowa Standard in Sioux Center about judicial nominations, pensions and my prescription drug pricing bill.

It's been an exciting week with Senator Ernst sharing her support for my bipartisan Prescription Drug Pricing Reduction Act, further growing the ranks of Senate Republican support. Senator Ernst pledged to lower drug prices, and her support for this bipartisan bill shows that when she makes a promise, she keeps it. Iowans know they can trust her to work hard, follow through and do what it takes to get the job done. I’ve worked with Senator Ernst for more than a year now to lower drug prices and hold bad actors accountable. Her support will be critical in turning this legislation into law.

Religious liberty is a protected constitutional right enshrined in the First Amendment. America can leverage our leadership to spark religious freedom in regions of the world blanketed by discrimination and oppression. People are persecuted for their faith by authoritarian dictatorships and terrorist groups. Countries like China, North Korea and Pakistan restrict their citizens’ rights to practice their chosen religion and worship without fear. As Iowa’s senior U.S. senator, I stand shoulder to shoulder with people of faith and support a Senate resolution that calls for the global repeal of blasphemy, heresy and apostasy laws. We must work to identify and combat discrimination, not look the other way and allow abuses to hide in the shadows. I joined Senator Ernst in sending a letter to the IRS requesting they promptly process 2018-2019 biodiesel tax credit claims. We worked tirelessly to include the biodiesel tax credit in the year-end funding package last year. With our strong support, Congress took action and renewed the tax incentive for five years in order to support this important industry and provide a positive market signal. Timely payment of claims for 2018 and 2019 is necessary for the recovery of the entire biodiesel industry, including producers, blenders and farmers.
