We wanted to break down the nuts and bolts of this historic case against a
former President – the first of its kind in American history:
The smoking gun: Investigators have a phone log of a call made by Donald
Trump to Georgia’s Republican Secretary of State after Joe Biden was
declared as the winner of the state of Georgia.
In the call he orders the Republican election official 'to find 11,780
votes [by any means]' so he could win the state (Joe Biden’s margin of
victory was 11,779 votes). When the election official refuses, Trump
explicitly threatens him, saying it is a serious crime to refuse his
demands and must act.

The accomplices: Donald Trump ordered Rudy Giuliani to fly to Georgia and
lobby state legislators to refuse to certify the results of the state’s
election using debunked, proven to be false, and fraudulent conspiracy
theories.
We also know that a close ally of Donald Trump privately pressured
Georgia’s chief election official to “throw out all legal mail-in
ballots,” to forcibly overturn Joe Biden’s win in the state. This is in
addition to the secret slate of ‘Fake Electors’ made of Republicans who
would try to illegally stand in for the state’s actual Electors’ to steal
Georgia’s Electoral Votes when the election was certified.

Why this case is different from the others: Donald Trump cannot pardon
himself for state-level criminal offenses (like Georgia’s) and the other
indictments are Federal, not state-level.
That, and while Federal criminal trials are almost never filmed and
televised, state-level proceedings can be and often are in high-profile
cases – meaning this case could be televised for hundreds of millions of
Americans to see pain-stakingly the lengths Trump went to overturn an
election.
