News from Representative Larson

Dear Friends,

Today marks 88 years since President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the Social Security Act into law, guaranteeing seniors can retire with dignity after a lifetime of hard work. This program helps protect our nation’s most vulnerable and allows beneficiaries to pay rent, buy groceries, and fill their prescriptions.

All across the country, while we are celebrating the 88th birthday, there is a call to action - a call to adopt Social Security 2100 and, as important, a call to prevail upon Congress: red state, blue state, unaffiliated, Independent, Republican and Democrat alike to do its constitutional responsibility and vote.

148,000 constituents in Connecticut's First Congressional District who receive Social Security benefits every year, and we must ensure these benefits keep up with their needs. Congress has not acted to enhance benefits in more than 50 years! Americans have faced a global pandemic, supply chain crisis and rising costs, all while 10,000 Baby Boomers a day become eligible for Social Security. I introduced the Social Security 2100 Act with nearly 200 of my colleagues in Congress to protect the program American workers pay into with each and every paycheck for the next generation, provide an across-the-board benefit increase for the first time in more than 50 years and ensure benefits keep pace with inflation.

A lot has changed about our country in 88 years, but the reliability of Social Security has not. Social Security beneficiaries are made up of our brothers and sisters, our mothers and fathers, and our children. It’s time to ensure they have the tools they need in order to not only survive but thrive for years to come.

A majority of Americans support protecting and enhancing Social Security, and Congress must act. I will keep fighting in Washington to ensure this program serves our nation for decades to come. To follow what I’m working on both in Washington and in Connecticut, visit my Facebook page, follow me on Twitter, or follow me on Instagram.
