New Agreement Renews Potential for Black-Performing Florida Congressional District ([link removed])

By Rachel Selzer

Here are some updates you may have missed.
* Parties in a state-level lawsuit ([link removed]) challenging Florida’s congressional map entered ([link removed]) into an agreement that paves the way for the state to potentially resurrect a Black-performing district in northern Florida before the 2024 primary elections.
* The Wisconsin Elections Commission approved ([link removed]) changes to the state’s absentee ballot certification envelope. Officials hope that the modifications will improve the mail-in voting process for voters and clerks.
* Ohio groups have started ([link removed]) collecting signatures for a state constitutional amendment to have a citizen-led bipartisan redistricting commission draw the state’s congressional and legislative maps.
* There was a hearing in federal court ([link removed]) today over the new congressional map ([link removed]) passed by the Republican-controlled Alabama Legislature. The enacted map only has one majority-Black district, but a federal court ordered
([link removed]) that the map must have two.
* Right-wing group True the Vote asked ([link removed]) for a jury trial in a lawsuit alleging that the group illegally intimidated voters during the 2021 U.S. Senate runoffs in Georgia. Currently, a bench trial, where a judge instead of a jury decides the case, is scheduled to begin Oct. 30.

Here are updates on Trump’s ongoing indictments.
* In Fulton County, Georgia, prosecutors began presenting ([link removed]) evidence to a grand jury following their two-year long investigation into former President Donald Trump and others' efforts to overturn the state’s 2020 presidential election results.
+ We are looking out the for Fulton County grand jury's potential indictment of Trump. Reporting ([link removed]) has suggested an indictment could come as soon as tonight.
* Earlier this month, Trump’s third indictment revealed six unnamed co-conspirators in the plot to overturn the 2020 election and incite the insurrection on Jan. 6. Get to know the likely six co-conspirators here. ([link removed])
