We can all agree our workers deserve basic water breaks.

John,

This July was the hottest month ever recorded. But while outdoor workers faced mounting health repercussions from extreme heat, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a bill to remove construction workers’ right to a 10-minute water break — all while sitting in the comfort of his air conditioned office.

Abbott’s red pen legislation is jeopardizing the health and safety of thousands of Texans in the name of corporate greed. That’s why last month, I took to the steps of the U.S. Capitol and led an eight-hour thirst strike in solidarity with workers across our country who deserve the right to a basic water break.

Look: Our climate crisis is spurring longer, more intense heat waves that have already exposed our workers to health risks — even with the right to a ten-minute water break.

To remove this basic protection during the hottest summer in our planet’s history isn’t just cruel. It’s outright inhumane, and we have to fight back against politicians like Abbott who continue to sell out our workers in the name of corporate greed.

So many issues in Washington are polarizing, but this shouldn’t be one of them, John. We can all agree that at a MINIMUM, our workers deserve basic water breaks. If you’re as outraged as I am that this is even up for debate, chip in now to help SEEC pass standard federal heat protections for our outdoor workers.

Here at SEEC, this is a battle we’ve been fighting since day one: corporate greed versus the interests of our people. And we’ve seen that the only way we can stand up to big corporate money is by organizing people all across the country to take action.

Right now, there is no federal standard for our outdoor workers — and as our climate crisis gets worse, so too will the health emergencies that happen to people on the job. Help SEEC put the pressure on OSHA to pass federal heat protections by rushing a contribution of any amount today »

As both a SEEC Member and a Representative from Texas, I won’t stop until we as a nation treat our outdoor workers with the dignity and protection they deserve. Thank you for supporting my fight.
