Team, this June the Supreme Court affirmed a lower court ruling that had struck down Alabama’s congressional map for violating the Voting Rights Act and ordered lawmakers to draw a new map that fairly represented Black voters.
But despite these clear instructions, Alabama Republicans have openly refused to comply with the Supreme Court’s ruling:

Team, the NDRC will not stop fighting until we’ve secured fair maps for voters in every state. Will you donate now to support our efforts to end gerrymandering?

Republicans know they hold a narrow majority in the House, which is why they’ll go to any lengths to gerrymander – even if it means defying court orders, including from the Supreme Court.
As A.G. Eric Holder so aptly put it, “Republicans use their minority power to undermine democracy because too many of them fear that they can’t win in a fair electoral system. They’re afraid of the voters.”
And this isn’t just about Alabama, team. According to experts, the recent SCOTUS ruling could lead to more states like Georgia, Louisiana, and others being required to redraw their racially-discriminatory maps before the next election. But if GOP lawmakers continue playing political games, they could keep manipulated maps in place!
Voters deserve fair elections. That’s why the NDRC is continuing to fight across the country to strengthen our democracy and defend it from those who seek to weaken it. We’re counting on our grassroots supporters to power our work – will you pitch in today to help us keep going?
