Friend, 88 years ago today, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the legislation that created Social Security.

In the decades since then, Social Security has become one of the most trusted and critical social programs. Today, almost 67 million Americans receive these monthly payments – and for many, it's a lifeline.

I'm fiercely proud to be a part of the political party that created Social Security and that continues to defend it today. Just recently, President Biden signed a historic increase in Social Security payments to cover the rising cost of living for recipients.

Up to 96% of Americans support Social Security. But that won't stop my colleagues across the aisle from doing everything they can to undermine Social Security. Republicans are working night and day to cut this vital program, limit benefits and raise the retirement age. 

Social Security has been one of the most important and transformative pieces of legislation ever signed. But today, as we mark its 88th birthday, it is facing unprecedented attacks. You have my word that I'll always stand up to defend Social Security for generations to come. But I can't win this fight alone.

That's why I'm personally calling on 10,000 Democrats to add their names to my petition before midnight tonight to show your support for Social Security. Please, will you sign on before midnight to show the GOP that you won't let them take away the benefits you are owed?
