Dear John,
The basic purpose of American civic society institutions like NIAC is to enable ordinary people to make their voices heard in the face of the powerful special interests who dominate Washington.
From our ongoing efforts to protect our community's civil rights from new "Alien Land Law" bills – including the Senate's recently passed Rounds Amendment – to our support for American diplomacy to free political prisoners unjustly detained in Iran, to our efforts to ensure food, medicine, and internet communication tools are not blocked by U.S. sanctions -- everything we advocate for is based on justice for ordinary people and speaking truth to power.
This August, NIAC members like you are set to meet with Members of Congress nationwide. You can sign up to join a congressional meeting right here [[link removed]] .
Here is what our volunteer-led NIAC Chapters are going to be pushing for during these meetings:
✔ ️ Advocate for the passage of S.Con.Res.2 , supporting both internet freedom and the imposition of targeted human rights sanctions, demonstrating our unwavering solidarity with the people of Iran.
✔ ️ Urge technology firms to utilize new internet freedom licenses, ensuring essential online services become accessible to our friends and families in Iran.
✔ Oppose new "Alien Land Laws" like the Rounds Amendment in the National Defense Authorization Act and pass the Preemption of Real Property Discrimination Act (H.R.3697) to safeguard the rights of Iranian and other immigrant communities.
✔ Support de-escalation and prevent military escalation with Iran.
Your Role: Our collective power is through voices like yours, and every voice matters. You can help ordinary members of your community who are meeting with their lawmakers by sending your own message. Please take a moment to add your voice and call on your representatives to stand up for peace, civil rights, and equitable immigration:
