It was last August, John — President Biden signed the Honoring our PACT Act into law, improving the care and compensation for those who were harmed by toxic burn pits while serving our nation. Meanwhile, Republicans were playing politics with veterans’ health.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) fist bumps Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) after Republicans temporarily defeated the PACT Act in the Senate last year.
John, Republicans were so upset by the legislative progress Democrats were making with the CHIPS & Science Act and in negotiations around the Inflation Reduction Act, that the GOP decided to hold our nation’s veterans hostage in order to make a political point.
And their partisan stunt rightfully backfired.
Veterans and their families — and even Jon Stewart — came to the Capitol to remind Republicans of their duty to uphold our nation’s promise to our veterans.
Let’s be clear: All Democrats were united in support for the PACT Act and for helping American veterans who were harmed by toxic chemicals. Only Republicans were opposing it — for no reason other than that they were throwing a temper tantrum. Finally, enough Senate Republicans backtracked on their monumentally ill-advised hissy fit, that we were able to pass the PACT Act.
We can’t let the GOP make gains when they’re willing to throw anyone and everyone under the bus if it helps them politically. Will you pitch in to help us stop them?
