I am truly humbled to have so many wonderful birthday wishes from my friends and colleagues. It’s so rewarding to do this work, and honestly, I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. It’s an absolute gift. But we at AAF are exhausted, and it’s been hard to celebrate this year.
Last year AAF saw a big wave of “rage giving” after the Dobbs decision. But those gifts have dropped off in a significant way… AAF has seen a 50% drop in individual giving each month from last year. This means I am also up at night worrying about Abortion Access Front’s ability to be responsive to the emergency needs of independent clinics, escorts, and patient support groups we work with because there is no other organization equipped to pick up the work should we need to cut back. Then there is the evergreen challenge of sustaining the work we scaled up last year to fight for nation-wide abortion access:
We created Operation Save Abortion, which has recruited 11,000 volunteers and activists across the country.
We interviewed more experts in reproductive rights, health and Justice for the Feminist Buzzkills podcast to ensure that our audience is always informed on what’s at stake and how to help.
We ramped up and expanded Expose Fake Clinics to help folks avoid the same horrible experience that I endured at age 17.
If you could make a donation to help sustain our work, that would be the best birthday gift I could ask for. And a monthly donation does even more to help us plan for the future. Heck, if you can make a $20 monthly donation, we’ll give YOU an AAF t-shirt for MY birthday!
