*Governor Kelly Announces More than $800K in Community Service Awards*

*
TOPEKA* – Governor Laura Kelly announced today that $821,129 in funding from AmeriCorps, the federal agency for service and volunteering, has been awarded to three organizations in Kansas to support new AmeriCorps VISTA projects. This investment will support 30 AmeriCorps members per year across the state.

“I’m pleased to see AmeriCorps programs receiving these resources to further the important work they’re doing to address poverty in communities across Kansas,” *Governor Kelly said.*

AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full-time for one full year at a community organization, such as a non-profit, faith-based organization, college or university, local government agency, and more, focusing on anti-poverty projects across the country.

*_Organizations receiving awards include:_*


* $158,130 – Servicemember Agricultural Vocation Education Corp., Riley
* $595,229 – Washburn University, Topeka
* $67,770 – Goodwill Industries of Kansas, Wichita

In addition to the awards announced today, AmeriCorps VISTA members supported by this award are eligible for up to $250,628 in educational scholarships to help pay for college, vocational training, or pay back student loans.
