July 2023 has officially been confirmed as the hottest month on record globally.
That probably isn’t surprising to any of us who set foot outdoors last month - or kept up with news story after news story of heat waves wreaking havoc on communities all around the world.
This is a reality not up for debate: The climate crisis is real, and it’s happening right now .
The problem is, the Republican Party has woven into its foundational values a complete and total disregard for truth and science. Scores of candidates who will be on the ballot in 2024 - including my opponent! - still insist on calling climate change a hoax.
My opponent thinks climate change is just a “natural trend” - which is, of course, absurd. But what’s scarier is that he actually believes that taking common-sense measures to tackle the climate crisis will only make people’s quality of life worse.
Personally, I would bet that the brutal heat waves, severe droughts, and extreme weather events like wildfires and hurricanes are the things making people’s quality of life worse.
And these things are going to be our new normal - unless we face reality head on, deal with our fossil fuel consumption, and put real, long-term climate solutions into action.
The only way we’re going to be able to do that is to elect more common-sense, science-guided, Democratic leaders in Congress and take back our House majority. Are you in to help us get there?
If so, I hope you’ll add your name to my petition to elect pro-science candidates in 2024! [[link removed]]
We’ve seen what a movement of committed, fired-up voters can do - we saw it in 2018 with the incredible nationwide blue wave, and again in 2020. And we saw it in 2022 when we prevented a red wave. Now, we need to get ready to see it again - to be it again.
Thanks for sticking with me.
