It’s not just a feel-good emotion: Confidence has consequences.

In an impact survey of hundreds of Leadership Academy for Women in Media alumni, we heard so many stories like this:
• “I attended the academy after what felt like a traumatic professional time — the closing of the department I led. The material and speakers at the academy and the support of my Poynter cohort helped me rebuild my trust and confidence in charting a path forward in our often challenging and unstable industry.”
• “Not only did I feel more engaged with my job after I returned, I found that I projected the kind of confidence that allowed me to be a resource to others.”
• “I'm now making more money than I ever thought possible in journalism, and I feel extraordinarily confident in my future in journalism, something I wasn't always sure of, especially as the mother of young kids.”
• “I was able to walk away and take a career break because I finally accepted that I *do* know what I am doing, and am good at what I do.”
• “Poynter gave me the confidence to try for a new opportunity outside of the organization I had worked at for over a decade.”
Gain more confidence in your work, your professional future and our industry. Apply for the 2024 Leadership Academy for Women in Media by Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.

Program details
We will host three leadership academies in 2024, each open to 30 participants: March 18-22; May 20-24; and Sept. 23-27. There is one application (which includes a letter of recommendation) to seat all three cohorts. Each program will take place in person at Poynter’s waterfront campus in sunny St. Petersburg, Florida.
Ideal candidates
Our program is designed for those who directly manage people and are within their first five years of formal leadership experience. We welcome all English-speaking women, including cis and trans women, as well as nonbinary and gender nonconforming journalists who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women in media.
Instructor info
Kate Cox led the academy in 2023 and will return as program director in 2024. Guest instructors and keynote speakers for 2024 will be announced closer to the seminar dates.

Read a Q&A with Cox about her stewardship of the program and see her tips for putting together a strong application.
