New Chief for Criminal Justice Data Improvement Program Unit, Stephanie Burroughs

BJS is pleased to announce Stephanie Burroughs as the new chief of its Criminal Justice Data Improvement Program Unit. Stephanie has been with BJS since 1993 and most recently served as a justice statistics policy analyst in the Criminal Justice Data Improvement Program Unit. She managed state programs from the application phase through closeout and traveled to her assigned states administering grant programs to improve research and increase public safety in the criminal justice system. Additionally, Stephanie served as peer review task manager and contracting officer?s representative for BJS, where she promoted diversity in peer review. As chief, Stephanie will oversee the National Criminal History Improvement Program, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Act Record Improvement Program, and the State Justice Statistics for Statistical Analysis Centers Program. She will also coordinate the State Justice Statistics for Statistical Analysis Centers Technical Assistance Program. Stephanie earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Howard University in Washington, DC.

Stephanie served as a Girl Scout leader in a multilevel Girl Scout troop for 25 years. She stepped away from leadership after her daughter received her Girl Scout Gold Award (equivalent to the Boy Scout Eagle Award) and graduated high school. Stephanie remains an active Girl Scout as a lifetime member. When Stephanie isn?t serving as a program manager for her states, conducting Girl Scout meetings, hosting parties, or traveling around the world, she enjoys spending quality time with her husband and daughter.
