John, I am excited to announce that Equal Justice USA has submitted a proposal idea for the prestigious South by Southwest conference — but we need your help! Our proposed panel, "Community is the Future of Public Safety," will be moderated by award-winning journalist and author Melissa Harris-Perry, and feature myself, Executive Director Lisa Daniels of Darren B. Easterling Center for Restorative Practices, and Executive Director Gregory Jackson of the Community Justice Action Fund. We will explore how community-centered solutions are essential alternatives to traditional approaches to public safety — policing, prosecutions, and prison — that have been failing for generations.
