John,
I think it's important for politicians to not talk a big game, but to actually have the record to prove that they show up for Montanans.
Having grown up in Montana and choosing to raise my family here, I greatly respect our Tribal Nations. That's why as a legislator, I have always made sure that I show up for Indian Country. I have been a proven supporter and defender of Tribal sovereignty, addressing the missing persons crisis, ensuring free and fair elections, and addressing the health concerns for everyone who calls Montana home.
I am the only candidate for Attorney General with the qualifying experience of championing and voting for legislation on these pivotal issues. That's why I ask you to join me in the fight to make our state safer and stronger. If you can make a donation to my campaign here, it will help us carry our message to more people and make our grassroots movement even stronger: [link removed]
Here is some of the work I have done for Indian Country:
-Supported a legislative study to ensure successful American Indian voting in Montana.
-Supported permanent authorization of the Indian Health Care Improvement Act to assist with health care in Indian Country and lengthen the lifespans of Native Americans.
-Cosponsored and passed a reform that provided funding for suicide prevention programs, especially in Indian Country.
-Cosponsored and passed a law that improved health care services in Indian County by allowing the Community Health Aide Program for Tribal facilities to begin.
-Reformed the law to require a state agency to document it has considered statutory guiding principles when formulating or implementing policies or administrative rules that have direct Tribal implications.
-Supported and passed ratification of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes water rights compact.
-Supported the reallocation of funds related to the Blackfeet Tribe water compact.
-Supported sovereignty and reformed the law to allocate wild buffalo licenses to tribes for traditional purposes.
-Supported Tribal recognition and reforms to create a Tribal monument and flag circle at the State Capitol.
- Drafted and supported 3 bills to honor Native Americans with memorial highways, establishing the Dolly Smith Akers Memorial Highway, the Louis Charles Charlo Memorial Highway, and the Minnie Spotted-Wolf Memorial Highway.
But so much more remains to be done. I am running for Attorney General to provide statewide leadership on Tribal issues that for too long have been insufficiently addressed. I will elevate the conversation surrounding Tribaljustice issues, especially violence against women and children. We must identify the underlying causes of increased violence against Montana’s Tribal Members and then implement a comprehensive plan with our Tribal Nations to effectively address criminal justice and violence-related issues, including prevention and rehabilitation.
Join me in the fight to make our state safer and stronger for all Montanans. Chip in $10 to my campaign today, so we can carry our message to more people and make our grassroots movement even stronger.
